Jamestown Brides - Chapter 7 (part 2)
Anna hugged him again and kissed his cheek. “Don’t be silly. You’re not to blame; it’s my own fault. I should have had the good sense to go down into the between-decks before the storm got too bad. You should know by now that even if you said something I probably would have stayed on the deck just out of stubbornness.” She smiled, as she tried to assure him.
“You’re too kind, but I’m responsible for my crew and passengers and that was poor judgment on my part yesterday to under estimate the weather after all these years on the sea.” Captain Drake admitted in a grated voice.
“You can’t play nursemaid to everyone on this big ship of yours, so I’m telling you it’s not your fault. That’s that.” Anna announced, in an upbeat tone, while grinning.
He considered her words. “Well, tell me what happened? And is Major Marsh alright as well?” Captain Drake could only hope he was safe.
Her eyes clouded over with a mist as the memory of the events from the night before flashed before her. She couldn’t remember being more frightened in her whole life than she was last night. Anna shivered from the memories. “Major Marsh actually saved my life last night, and if he hadn’t risked his own life to save me, I believe I would have been washed overboard by the waves.” Anna wiped her eyes and continued. “The only place we could reach during the storm was the capstan room where we spent the night, and that’s why I look such a wet mess.” She explained in a ragged voice, and then asked him again. “Did the ship fair okay in the storm? I noticed we not moving.”
