Jamestown Brides - Chapter 7 (part 3)

Filed under: Jamestown Brides — Susan Hilliard at 3:35 am on Tuesday, April 26, 2005

“We’ll stay anchored here today, while we do a few repairs. The ship faired well with only a couple of ripped sails, but nothing that can’t be easily mended. A life on the other hand could not be replaced. I’ll have to thank Major Marsh myself today for rescuing you.” Captain Drake informed her as he smiled.

“If you’ll excuse me Captain Drake, all I want now is to clean up and get on some dry clothes.” Anna volunteered, with a sigh.

“Don’t try and get out of our chess game tonight, because I have a good feeling I may win this one. You know the crewmembers have placed bets on us.” Captain Drake said with his usual twinkle in his eyes.

“It’s a date Captain, but tell them I’m the one to place the money on.” Anna suggested as she struggled not to laugh. Captain Drake had a way of cheering her up. He was so much like a brother with his dry humor. She had told him this several times since they had become such good friends.

When Anna went down into the between-decks she saw that the floor was ankle deep in seawater, and the other passengers were busy ringing out blankets and clothes and hanging them from the rafters. As she stepped on the last step several of the women saw her and rushed up to her and hugged her. They explained how they all thought that Major Marsh and her had been a casualty of the storm during the night. Anna was touched by everyone’s concern and she told them about their night and what had happened.
